Pass a West Orange Trust resolution

Help us pass an ICE-Out of West Orange Resolution

Like many other towns in NJ, we want to influence our town council to pass a resolution that will help protect the large immigrant community from ICE activity. Right now, we don’t believe all the members of the town council understand how important this is.

We have introduced a resolution to the town council that would ban the use of town property for any outside federal agents (including ICE and any DHS agency). This resolution would also provide safe places within public property (including the library, parks, and town buildings) where federal agencies would need a valid judicial warrant to enter. We need your help to convince the West Orange Town Council that this is an important resolution that the public wants to see passed.

There are 2 things YOU can do to help us:

  1. Sign the petition urging the Town Council to pass the resolution
  2. Email the Town Council to let them know why they should pass this resolution

We want to clearly show the town council that our West Orange community wants to stand together with our immigrant community. Please sign the petition urging the West Orange Town Council to pass the ICE Out of West Orange Resolution.

Use the link below to email the West Orange Town Council directly, and let them know you support the ICE Out of West Orange Resolution and want them to take the safety of the West Orange immigrant communities seriously!

What is the ICE Out of West Orange resolution we are Asking West Orange to pass?

We have proposed a resolution to ensure that the township of West Orange actively chooses to remain separate and avoid working with ICE or any other DHS agency.

The purpose of the resolution is to:

  1. Ensures town-owned property and resources not be used by federal immigration enforcement agencies as a staging area or operation base.
  2. Private “safe zones” should be set aside in public buildings (schools, libraries, town hall, and other publicly owned buildings) with clear signage where Federal agents cannot access or detain individuals without a valid judicial warrant.
  3. West Orange town will not collect, retain, or share personal information related to immigration status.
  4. Timely and accessible reporting of any ICE or federal immigration enforcement activity in and around West Orange.
